The time has come for me to leave the beauty and grandeur of student life, and join the masses in the working world. (My feelings on this are encapsulated in this exchange from the most learned of cartoon characters – Bart: I quit! Work is for suckers! Homer: Oh, I’m so proud of you boy. I didn’t figure that out until I reached 30.) And, having spent my last career in marketing, I have been very interested in what job seekers are doing to market themselves to prospective employers, particularly with their resumes. The first step is finding ways to break through the stacks of job applications that overwhelm the desks and email boxes of any hiring law partner these days. Unfortunately, the legal industry relishes conformity. I imagine that when the old guard partners think about their employees, they see Apple’s 1984 Macintosh Commercial, before the hammer smack-down, and say to themselves, “Wow, how can we do that? I bet those human cogs crank out their billable hours.” That mentality certainly tempers my creative outlet.
So, in my search, I have discovered some very interesting designs, but one that really impressed me with its ingenuity and creativity takes advantage of the iPhone, QR codes, and a little bit of fun. Take a look.
QR CODE – Content-rich Resume from Victor petit on Vimeo.
I am not sure how this would play out in the legal world, but it does inspire me. For those that want to see my current static design, click here.
