Unlike studio portraiture which focuses solely on the person being photographed, environmental portraiture highlights the subject’s life by including within the frame, their normal surroundings. This approach is more organic, allowing both the subject to be more comfortable, which comes through in the photograph itself. This allows for a more accurate representation of the subject and enhances the overall story. The images here are samples from various projects, both at home and on location. I prefer environmental portraiture over the traditional approach, not just for the reasons mentioned, but because I have always felt that a good photograph tells a story, and that story becomes more apparent when subjects are photographed within their own surroundings. These photos come from various projects over the past decade from my family or countries such as Haiti, Guatemala, Argentine and Mexico. I encourage you to discover the stories for yourself.
